From influencer to boss.

We're here to help content creators take their business to the next level.

Win $5,000 to level-up your brand.

From bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, game streamers and influencers, it's no secret that the creator economy is booming in Australia. In fact, a recent study commissioned by Vista found that content creators are earning wages, hiring help and are ready to turn their side hustles into fully realised businesses. But influencing isn't all filters and TikTok dances; creators say they're struggling with design, marketing and a lack of support when trying to take their brand to the next level. That's why Vista is giving five content creators a $5,000 grant to reach their potential and grow their business.

Unpacking the creator economy.

Like the name suggests, a content creator is anyone who creates content; primarily for digital platforms. This includes social media influencers, podcasters, bloggers, YouTubers, gaming streamers and more. For this survey, we spoke to 500 people who have monetised their social media content in the last 12 months.
They earned on average $52,744.82 (before tax) through social media content. They published content on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and more.

Content creators are looking to grow.

More than four in five (83%) content creators have paid someone in the past 12 months to help them make content and more than nine in ten (94%) have business goals over the next five years.
52% want to grow their reach beyond social media; 49% want to broaden their social media presence onto other platforms, while a similar proportion (48%) want to have a more stable and predictable income.
Other goals include launching/expanding their own line of products or merchandise (44%); hiring support staff to grow and scale the business (41%) and shifting content creation from a side hustle to main income (40%).

But 95% of content creators face challenges in their work.

More than two in five (43%) cite a lack of support from industry and Government bodies in terms of training and incentives as a challenge, while having limited knowledge on design and marketing strategies is a challenge for nearly two in five (39%).
Limited knowledge on how to create a brand identity and monetise content are concerns for more than one in three (36% each), while similar proportions cite that they have limited knowledge on how to grow their business (35%) and experience a lack of recognition of the time and effort involved in content creation (34%).
Other challenges include having an unstable or unpredictable income (25%), brands not understanding how to best work with them (22%) and not being taken seriously as a businessperson (15%).
